Quickly, you point and shoot on auto pilot. The flash doesn't fire. You assume this means flash was not needed. After all, it's supposed to fire when light levels are low. The natural light behind your children has just fooled the camera. When you review the picture taken, you will find that you have a nice, dark, silhouette of your kids. Their cheerful faces will be hidden in the dark exposure. Creative options for built-in auto-flashes are limited.

Sun Flare

Sun flare can be a nasty problem when using a pocket camera. You can overcome this by shielding the lens of your camera from the sun with your hand. But if you're not careful, your hand will wind up in the picture. Since lens shades won't work on flat-faced cameras, you have to protect the lens by some other means. The human hand is usually the most effective. If you don't prevent stray light from shining on your lens, you will see bright spots that resemble stars or doughnuts on your finished prints.

The more automated your camera is, the higher the risk is that something will malfunction. This should not scare you away from the versatile, easy-to-use pocket cameras. If you stick with a major brand of camera, you should not experience many problems that are not associated with the operator of the tool. Keep fresh batteries in your camera. Immersion Lithography The uniqueness about Immersion Lithography is seen in the replacement of air with ultrapure water as the medium between the lens and the wafer. This pushes the physical limits of NA for the exposure systems beyond NA=1 for air, given the following relation: NA=n sin alpha = d/2f. Ultra pure water is highly suitable as it has a refraction index of 1.47, absorption of Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography EUVL uses light sources with wavelength (13.4nm) 10 times shorter than current wavelengths (139nm). This will make possible fabrication of circuit lines smaller than 0.1 microns in width, extendable to below 30nm. EUVL masks are reflective masks, with a patterned absorber of EUV radiation placed on top of an ML (multilayer thin film with alternating layers of Mo and Si) reflector deposited on a robust and solid substrate, such as a silicon wafer. The key requirement is to make a mask with essentially no defects. The strong absorption of EUV radiation by all materials poses the main problem in developing a satisfactory photoresist for EUV lithography. . The thin layer imaging is already a mature technology, thus resist is no longer a critical issue. Printed lines as small as 50nm in photoresist has already been achieved. The Virtual National Laboratory (VNL) formed by the three Laboratories - Lawrence Livermore, Lawrence Berkeley, and Sandia/California, has developed and built a prototype extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) system called the engineering test stand (ETS). This ETS has produced test patterns with a line-to-spacing ratio of 1:1 with high fidelity down to line widths of 70 nm using its Set-2-optic. By adjusting the illumination pattern and the exposure dose, the team printed less densely spaced lines with widths down to 39 nm. It is thus able to meet the production requirements set for chips with 1 billion transistors and up in the years 2007 to 2010. X-ray Lithography The basic set up of a typical XRL system is by using a synchrotron as an x ray source. Synchrotron-based XRL provides a wide exposure-dose window, which is very important in ULSI fabrication. Insensitivity to dust is another advantage, which will affect the amount of pattern defects. The source is an electromagnetic wave, which is generated when high-energy electrons are accelerated. To minimize x ray absorption, the mask substrate is made of a thin membrane consisting of materials with a low atomic number. Increasing the median energy to 2.6 to 2.7keV allows printing of smaller features down to 35nm by using a harder spectrum, choosing the appropriate materials for the mask and the resist match the transmission and absorption at this high energies. Electron beam lithography Electron beam lithography applies direct writing method to scan electron beam across various material surface covered with resist film to create desired extensive patterns on the substrates. Because of the high energy electron beam (tens to hundred eV), it totally eliminates the diffraction effect; however, it can make damages to the substrate material. The resolution is now limited by aberration of electron optics and scattering effects which is more severe. Through scattering effect correction, it can reach a resolution about 10-20nm. As the pattern generation is carried out through scanning the surface pixel by pixel controlled by computer aided design (CAD), this leads to very slow speed, thus very low throughput. Although this E-beam direct writing does not require a mask which usually costs a lot for specific material, delicate equipment cost and frequent maintains are usually very expensive up to millions of dollars, thus mass production is economically unfavorable. These speed and cost considerations limit its application in mass commercial production for 50 nm feature size although it has a high level resolution. Instead this technique is used to produce high quality mask with good resolution and also widely used in research purpose. Nano-imprint Lithography (NIL) NIL creates a resist relief pattern by deforming the resist physical shape with embossing, instead of modifying the resist chemical structure with radiation or creating the pattern by self-assembly. Therefore, nano-imprint lithography’s resolution is not limited by the effects of wave diffraction, scattering and interference in a resist, and backscattering from a substrate. There are two advancements in this technology recently. A new UV based nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL) has been developed and demonstrated at AMO as attractive alternative to the hot embossing technique. The low pressure (Researchers at Princeton University, US, have shown that photocurable nanoimprint lithography (P-NIL) can produce lines of polymer resist just 7 nm wide with a pitch (or pattern repeat) of only 14 nm. The technique also produced reliable results over the whole area of a 4 inch wafer. This device was recommended to me by a friend, this is an ipod like device that can store up to 8gb of mp3's as well as photos.

Creative have been manufacturing alternatives to Apple ipods for a while now and this model, the Creative Zen Microphoto, is sold to directly compete with the Apple ipod photo (although the ipod photo comes with a 60gb hard drive).

On first appearances the Zen Microphoto feels well built and sturdy, most of Creative's lineup seem to be built to a high standard which is what you'd expect from any device which costs a significant amount of money. One thing that usually lets devices like this down is the quality of the earphones. A lot of thought usually goes into the device and the bundled earphones seem like they were thought of at the last minute. This isn’t the case with the Creative Zen Microphoto however, the earphones feel quality, fit comfortably in the ear, and actually produce a decent sound. One thing that would have been a nice feature is in-line volume controls for volume and track navigation. As it stands you have to root around in your pocket, fish out the Zen, then activate the controls before you can perform any of these tasks, which would become annoying if you were riding a bike or jogging while listening to your music.

Since you have to use the main controls on the Zen you'd expect them to be easy to use, for some reason though Creative have opted for a control panel which consists of 4 touch buttons and a touch slider. You have to tap the buttons or the slider in order to activate the device, then use the slider to navigate through the track listings and menus. Once into the menu function it is self explanatory and easy to navigate, with a nice bright display which is clear and easy to read. What I found in my experience was that the slider was oversensitive and the 4 touch buttons were undersensitive, this proved a little infuriating. One thing I did notice is that there was no stop button, only play and pause. What I think would have been a better option would have been to use simple click buttons for the controls and a classic volume wheel instead of a slider. I can see what creative have tried to do in choosing the buttons and the slider that they have, in trying to keep the lines and style of the device simple, but in doing so have made the zen more difficult to use and ultimately lets the device down.

An aspect that I think Creative needs to seriously look at is when you switch to viewing photos on the zen, the music stops. Quite why this happens I'm not sure but I think this is something that will frustrate a lot of people.

When switching on the Creative Zen Microphoto the edge around front face of the device lights up to compliment the buttons and really does look good.

Creative's choice of navigation buttons for the Zen become evident when switched on as the whole package has a quite a stylish look when illuminated.

The Zen Microphoto comes with a USB lead to connect to a PC, this allows for the easy transfer of music and photos onto the Zen as well as being able to use the Zen as a portable USB storage device for other files which is quite handy. The 8gb hard drive size means there should be sufficient space for most people to carry around their entire music collection.

I had recently purchased a TomTom ONE GPS Systems for my car. Here is my own opinion/review of this product. First off this system came with a 1GB memory stick for your applications and maps. The TomTom One GPS System was around $349 at Best Buy. I love this device because you can mount it in your vehicle as well as carry it around wheverer you go. It usually connects to about 8 out of 12 satellites available. I have had this device for about a year now and it has only got me lost twice, but that might be because I’m always to lazy to update it.

The other day my buddy was in my car, and he had the urge to try to hooked up his Bluetooth cell phone to my TomTom ONE GPS to see if it would give us weather, traffic reports, etc. It indeed gave us weather reports, but we could not get the traffic reports to work. It would come up with a green button in the top right hand corner but never notified us of anything else, so we weren’t sure if it was even working or not.

The TomTom ONE GPS also has a option for “Night Colors”, which is great in my opinion. I mean who wants a bright light glaring in the face from the GPS? Night mode changes all map colors to darker colors so you can still see them at night but they don’t blind you while you are trying to drive. I have noticed that the TomTom ONE GPS, has a option for TomTom Plus Services. I guess you can pay $15.00 a month or so and receive instant map updates as well as POI(Point of Interest) updates from this service. I personally am not in the car enough to pay for it, but some people may desire to have this.

In a nutshell, I think the TomTom ONE GPS Navigation System is well worth the money. I just recently moved to Florida and have no clue where I am going. The TomTom saves me from having to ask people where to go or to get on Google Maps everytime I want to get somewhere.

Vizio VX32L 32" LCD HDTV Review

The Vizio 32" LCD HDTV cost around $500 or so, depending on where you buy it. I bought mine from Sam’s Club at around $520. I also purchased the wallmount for it. This is my first HDTV LCD TV that I have ever owned and I love it. It has dual HDMI output connections as well as VGA output connection to hook it to your PC or what not. I have hooked this up to my PC via DVI connection and the quality isn’t as good as I thought it would be, but still very good. If you get the perfect resolution set for this TV it would look flawless, especially with HDMI. The max resolution for the Vizio 32" is 1366 x 768 resolution. The HDMI cables run about $100, thats why I have not hooked this up via HDMI yet.

I currently have Dishnetwork (Non-HD) connected to my TV. If you are far away the TV looks EXCELLENT. When you get closer is when you start to see more of the pixels, but this is obviously caused by not having DishNetwork HD, and HDMI cables hooked up. My personal opinion on this TV is that for the price, you can not beat $500 for a 32" Hi-Definition TV. The TV has the capability to remove the base to allow mounthing on the wall. There are about 10 screws or so to fully mounth this TV to the wall. It was not much of a task at all. Pretty simple.

Nintendo Wii more expensive than last Holidays

About one year ago our I4U Shop got several Wii consoles in stock. The price in December 2006 was $476.11. Today we got again stock of Nintendo Wii consoles from wholesale channels. The best price we can make this year is $538.80, that is a $60 price increase. This is crazy. Products are supposed to get cheaper with time. Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 actually did get cheaper this year.

The lowest price on the Amazon 3rd party Wii offers is $548.00. We at least are able to beat that price and our shipping fee is also lower.
I really would rather be able to offer the Wii console for the $249.99 price Nintendo has set for it. Our shop is though dependent on the prices wholesalers make.

On eBay the Wii console prices are a bit better. It looks like it is worth to follow some auctions and you might be able to score a Wii for around $400.

The best way to find a Wii for the actual MSRP, is still in stores. You can use The Yahoo! Wii Finder or the iTrackr service to locate stores near you that have Wii in stock.

Nintendo has announced record sales already this holiday season. Demand is by far still outstripping supply. Nintendo said that they ramped up production to 1.8 million units, but it is just not enough, as the Wii is not just a hot selling item in the U.S.

80GB Zune not shipping yet?

Two days ago on November 13th Microsoft said the new Zune players are available. Now reports come in that the 80GB Zune is not shipping.

I have seen that many pre-ordered the 80GB Zune on Amazon.com already weeks ago. Apparently the orders have not been filled.

Zune Scene quotes an inside Microsoft contact saying that the Zune 80GB is 6 weeks behind production schedule. There are supposed to be 80GB Zune players coming in the next weeks.

Black Asus Eee PC now also from NewEgg

The black Asus Eee PC is now also selling from NewEgg. We reported yesterday that J&R will ship the black Asus Eee 4G on November 16th.

The Galaxy black sells for $399.99 just like the white Eee.

It would be good to know when Asus is actually launching the 8G. Asus said that Windows Asus Eee PCs are still coming this year. Will those be 8G? Who knows.

Xbox 360 Arcade ships Today

Microsoft finally got around to officially announcing the Xbox 360 Arcade. The Xbox 360 Arcade already showed up in some retail stores a week ago.

The Xbox 360 Arcade is now shipping from major online retailers. Wal-mart offers the Xbox 360 Arcade for $279.92.
Gamestop sells the cheapest Xbox 360 console for $279.99.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 Arcade console includes five family-friendly games (PAC-MAN Championship Edition" (NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.), "Uno" (Carbonated Games), "Luxor 2" (MumboJumbo), "Boom Boom Rocket" (Electronic Arts Inc.) and "Feeding Frenzy" (Sprout Games)), a wireless controller, a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connection to enable high-definition output if desired and 256 MB of memory.

As said in my earlier coverage of the Xbox 360 Arcade, Microsoft should have set the price to $249.99 to compete heads-on with the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo can just lean back and can keep their pricing while Sony and Microsoft cut pricing of their consoles for the holiday shopping season.

On the other hand Nintendo seems to still struggle to get enough Wii consoles into the U.S. marketplace. It is still not in stock on Amazon.com every time I check.

40GB Sony PS3 is official

Sony officially announces the rumored 40GB Sony PS3 console for Europe launching next week on October 10th at the new low price of €399. (Price would be $399 if it launches in U.S.)

There are few differences between the 40GB PS3 and the 60GB PS3. One big difference is that the new PS3 is no longer backwards compatible with PS2 games.

“The introduction of the new PS3 has been the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next generation of PS3 owners,” said David Reeves, President of SCEE. “It has allowed us to deliver an extremely advanced, yet incredibly affordable High Definition gaming and entertainment system, configured to the needs of the next generation of European PS3 owners. PS3 has always been the device of choice for the discerning gamer and entertainment seeker, and the new PS3 is more than ever the perfect High Definition entertainment system."

Digital SLR Camera Buyers Guide

If you are shopping for a digital camera to be given as a gift for a birthday, graduation, or Christmas you may have lots of questions about which camera type to buy. At the most basic level you need to decide what the camera will be used for and what the skill level of the person using the camera is. If your camera is just for shooting the occasional picture of friends and events a simple point-and-shoot camera may do the trick.

If the person using the camera wants to make artistic shots with complete control over aperture, ISO and shutter speed, you need a DSLR camera. DSLR cameras seem complex, but for the most part learning how to use them is a simple job that anyone can do. In fact, when in doubt many DSLR cameras feature auto modes that turn them into point-and-shoot cameras. However, when lighting conditions are challenging the DSLR will allow you to get a properly exposed image when a point-and-shoot camera simply can’t do it.

Let me give you an example of when a DSLR camera comes in handy. My daughter loves gymnastics and I tried, in vain, with a point-and-shoot camera to take a decent shot during class. The problem was that the flash on the point-and-shoot wasn’t bright enough expose the image properly. The point-and-shoot also wasn’t adjustable enough for me to change aperture, shutter speed and the ISO speed to get a good shot. Of all the pictures I took I did not end up with one correctly exposed image, they were all too dark and grainy. Not to mention the fact that the shutter speed and focus time were too slow to get fast moving targets in the shot.

I decided I had enough of missing pictures of my kids because the point-and-shoot I used was too slow and I bought a DSLR camera. Now I can get perfectly exposed images in most any condition using manual settings on the DSLR camera. One nice feature is that the shutter speed is fast enough to freeze fast action like soccer games and running kids. If you are having the same problems I did with poorly exposed images and you normally end up with nothing but your kids elbow in the image because your current digital camera is just too slow, this DSLR camera buyers guide is for you.

If you shop around and don’t need all the bells and whistles on a DSLR, you can find one for not much more than a high-end point-and-shoot camera. The cameras below are arranged in no particular order. Also keep in mind that DSLR cameras typically come in kit versions that include a lens and body only versions which do not.
